Family Engagement Plan

Title I provides parents with opportunities to be involved in their child’s education. Each year, the school writes a Family Engagement Plan, or FEP with parents.

This plan tells about events, resources, and opportunities for families to share their ideas.

School Introduction:

The Family Engagement Plan (FEP) is organized into four impact areas. We will be working together this year to build positive and goal-oriented relationships in each area. Families and staff at school developed this plan together.

Welcoming Environment

Our school has staff member(s) available for families to discuss this plan and ask questions.

  • Principal: Ms. Julie Hutcheson-Downwind
  • Assistant Principal: Mr. Devon Smith
  • Family Liaison: Ms. Adela Holguin

Our school communicates with families in many ways.

  • Our families are informed about school events through flyers, digital newsletters, social media, and our school website: spps.org/aims. Mass Notification system notifies parents of important events via a phone call, email, and text.
  • When families call or email, every effort is made to return the message within 24 hours.
  • Monthly family meetings and breakfast with the principals.

Transitions between schools can be challenging, and we work to help families as their children start and leave our school.

For new students and families, we support the transition by:

  • For new students and families, we support the transitions by welcoming all families through a yearly open house and tours for families in search of a school.

  • We offer transition activities for 5th grade students moving up our middle school program.
  • For students and families moving on to high school, we support the transition by offering our 8th grade students tours and guest speakers from different high schools.

Family Partnerships

Our school-parent compact establishes the shared responsibility for student success between the school, families, and students. Families and teachers work together to develop the compact.

Copies of the compact are available: Copies of the compact are available on the school website, at Open House, at Parent/Teacher Conferences, and in the office.

The compact will be updated: The compact will be updated with input from staff and families in fall of 2024 and spring of 2025.
